User roles determine what area of the system users can view and what activities they can perform when a record (proposal, award, etc.) is in a particular state.

System User Roles


Study Staff

  • Creates and submits proposals
  • All users in IBISResearch have this role

Department Reviewer

  • Approves proposals and documentation when part of a workflow. Creates ancillary reviews as needed
  • Also includes administrators who create and manage proposals on behalf of departments


  • Create and manage proposals, awards, and award modifications (ORA Role)

Award Approver

  • Activate and approve awards or award modifications in Final Review (ORA Role)
